Atelier Van Tesch — Peinture

Atelier Van Tesch is a painting studio dedicated to the tradition of clair-obscur — the technique of dramatic contrasts between light and shadow that defined the work of the great masters. The atelier creates commissions for private clients and collectors, each painting built slowly, in layers, over weeks. We were asked to make a film that would capture the spirit of that process.

Clair-obscur is a visual language in itself — so we let it guide us. We shot in the studio using only natural light from a single north-facing window, mirroring the conditions the painter works in. The camera stayed close: the loaded brush, the canvas texture, the slow emergence of a face from shadow. We wanted the film to feel like the painting itself being seen for the first time.
